And size does matter – Gaming chair size guide

Und es kommt doch auf die Größe an - Gaming Stuhl Größenberatung

If you go to a furniture store, you're unlikely to find custom-made products. Especially in the area of office and gaming chairs, you'll find standardized products . Doesn't that bother you? Congratulations – then you're probably blessed with a height between 1.65 and 1.85 meters, and the limited height adjustment range of a gaming chair won't be an issue for you.

But for this to actually work for you as an average person, another criterion is necessary: your other body proportions must also correspond to the average, otherwise, despite your height, you'll have trouble finding a good gaming chair. But why? And how do you find the right size for your gaming chair?

5 reasons why your gaming chair doesn't "fit" you

A gaming chair consists of several components and parts, and their standard sizes can cause problems if you're shorter than 1.65m or taller than 1.85m. Even if you're considered "average," your body proportions might deviate from this, as your limbs could be of different lengths . This is more common than you might think. But how can you tell?

In order to set up your gaming desk ergonomically, your gaming chair must be the right size for you.
This is what it looks like when you're sitting perfectly in your gaming chair.

1. The gas spring has too little play.

Height adjustability is probably the most obvious factor when it comes to the size of a gaming chair. If the chair can't be lowered far enough, your legs will dangle in the air . In this case, a lot of weight rests on your buttocks and lower back – tension and stiffness are the result . Alternatively, you might slide forward towards the edge of the seat – but then you lose the support of the backrest.

If, on the other hand, it cannot be raised high enough, you'll feel like you're sitting on a stool, as your knees will be at a clearly less than 90° angle. In this case, you'll be in a very cramped sitting position , and your abdominal organs will be compressed.

For a comfortable and ergonomic sitting position, your pelvis should be slightly higher than your knees, and your knees should be bent at an angle of slightly more than 90° to ensure optimal blood circulation in your legs . Additionally, your feet should be firmly planted on the floor so that your entire weight isn't supported by your buttocks and thighs while sitting.

2. The seat is too short or too long.

At first glance, the seat of a gaming chair is primarily considered in terms of comfort. However, if it's too long, the seat will dig into the backs of your knees , or in extreme cases, even your calves will be resting on it when your back is pressed against the backrest. This forces you to sit far forward on the edge of the seat, depriving your back of proper support. Poor posture is practically guaranteed.

If the seat is too short, your thighs will essentially sag. They won't receive optimal support, resulting in too much weight on your buttocks. This can also lead to uncomfortable pressure on your thighs and potentially cause minor circulatory problems , such as a leg falling asleep or your legs feeling heavy throughout the day.

3. The seat is too narrow or too wide.

On a seat that's far too wide, you can easily feel lost. This becomes problematic if your gaming chair's seat is divided into different zones with varying levels of padding. In that case, your buttocks won't receive the necessary support from the firmer outer sections. Furthermore, for optimal back support, you should sit as centrally as possible on the chair and maintain contact with the backrest. If the seat is too wide, however, this feeling can be lost.

If the seat is too narrow, the problem is obvious: your buttocks will protrude over the edges of the seat. This is not only uncomfortable but can also be painful, and more importantly, your body won't receive the full support it needs while sitting, putting significant strain on your legs and lower back. The width of the seat is also often directly related to the width of the backrest, meaning you'd lack support there as well. In short, the entire chair is too small for you and therefore probably unsuitable not only for your height but also for your weight.

4. The armrests are too far away from the body.

Problems often create what? Exactly: even more problems! Because if your seat is too wide, a new obstacle arises: the armrests are too far away from your body, which means they can't properly relieve pressure on your shoulders . You're forced to hold your arms at a certain height using your own strength. This practically guarantees tension in your neck and shoulders. But the height adjustment of the armrests also plays a role here. They should be adjustable so that they are level with the edge of the table and completely relieve pressure on your arms.

5. The backrest is too big, too small, or cannot be adjusted.

Gaming chairs typically feature an exceptionally high backrest with side bolsters, which makes them appear inviting and comfortable. However, caution is advised. If the backrest is too narrow, your upper body won't rest properly in the back support, and your shoulder blades will dig into the side bolsters. This causes your spine to sag, resulting in a hunched posture. Conversely, if the backrest is too high, the lumbar support curve might not be positioned correctly, leading to lower back tension. The same applies if the backrest is too short. Furthermore, the backrest must not only be the right length for your torso but also adjustable to your weight to prevent strain and allow for freedom of movement. You can find more information about backrest adjustments here .

Your body doesn't have to deviate significantly from the norm.

As you can see, there are many factors related to size that can make an office or gaming chair unsuitable for you. But one thing in particular probably stands out: you're likely an average-sized person, yet when you go to a furniture store, you never quite find the right office chair for you. And that makes sense: the human body can't be forced into a standard. Every body is unique, so a standardized gaming chair can only ever be a compromise . At best, you might not find the worst chair, but something will still pinch or rub here and there, meaning the gaming chair won't be 100% comfortable.

The Gamechanger gaming chair offers an ergonomic solution in this case. Size matters, and to ensure it's a perfect fit for both of you, we offer a choice of three different sizes . But are three sizes really enough?

Many gaming chairs only come in one standardized size. This is problematic because no two bodies are alike. Therefore, you don't even have to deviate that much from the average size for your chair to be too big or too small.

We support you!

The clear answer is initially "yes." However, as we mentioned at the beginning, body proportions vary considerably. The solution in this case is offered by various adjustment and customization options, allowing you to fine-tune your GAMECHANGER to the perfect size. The synchronous mechanism lets you adjust it perfectly to your body.

  • Adjust the height of the backrest so that its curve is at the same height as your lumbar spine, providing optimal relief for your back.
  • Adjust the seat depth (S/M and L) to suit the length of your legs, ensuring optimal support while sitting and relieving pressure on your lower back.
  • Release the backrest lock and adjust it precisely to your weight - this way you achieve maximum freedom of movement, relieve your blood vessels and muscles while maintaining your back support.
  • Adjust the 4D armrests to the width of your shoulders and the appropriate height for you - this keeps your neck loose, your shoulders relaxed and your head free.
  • Choose the right gas spring for you . Aside from our standard gas spring, which, with a seat height of 46-58 cm, is particularly suitable for people between 1.65 and 1.85 m tall, we offer you the option of an alternative gas spring . For a height of up to 1.64 m, we recommend a smaller gas spring with a seat height of 39-47 cm. However, if you are over 1.90 m tall, the taller gas spring with a seat height between 49-62 cm is recommended.

Is there a perfect gaming chair for you? Absolutely! Size matters , and to ensure a perfect fit, we deliberately designed the Gamechanger to be flexible enough for you to adjust it precisely. Good to know: The Gamechanger is currently the only gaming chair on the market offered in different sizes. And here's a fun fact:

Short legs? We know the feeling. With the right gaming chair, like the Gamechanger, that's no longer a problem.

Our founder Janet and I, the lovely Jay, are both within the average height range of 1.65 to 1.85m. While Janet, at 1.76m tall, can comfortably sit on the standard gas spring thanks to her long legs, I need a smaller gas spring for the Gamechanger Gaming Chair in size L – despite being 1.69m tall. Otherwise, my feet simply can't reach the floor. You can quickly determine the best combination for you using our technical specifications and a tape measure. If you're still unsure about the right size, please don't hesitate to contact us. Our customer service team is always happy to help.
